The English translations of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin's two books, which made their international debut Wednesday at the Frankfurt Book Fair, have won great acclaim from its world-class publisher.

The English editions of the two books, "On the Development of China's Information Technology Industry" and "Research on Energy Issues in China," were published by Elsevier Publishing Group.

Jim Donohue, Elsevier's Managing Director of Science and Technology Books, disclosed in an exclusive interview with Xinhua that the two books would have great impact on leaders across the world.

Elsevier specializes in science and health information. With headquarters in Amsterdam, Elsevier has some 60 offices around the world and has published works by former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping as well as Nobel Prize winners Albert Einstein and Marie Curie.

Donohue said he felt excited to publish the English versions of Jiang's works.

"It is the first time for Elsevier to translate Chinese technology books into English," Donohue announced. He believed that Jiang's books would attract a large number of readers and also expand the horizons of world leaders.

A grand debut ceremony for the English versions of the two books was held Wednesday at the Frankfurt Book Fair, and garnered a lot of attention from visitors.

Donohue, who attended the ceremony, also congratulated China on being the Guest of Honor at the 61st Frankfurt Book Fair.

"China is a country with real impact. It has great intellectual contributions to the world in the areas of science, culture and literature," he said. He added that "the Frankfurt Book Fair has acknowledged China for its due significance."

The 2009 Frankfurt Book Fair, which runs from Oct. 13 to Oct. 18, is the world's largest and most important book fair. It features over 400,000 books from more than 100 countries and regions, and attracts some 180,000 international trade visitors.
