President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday met with chief executives of Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions (SAR) and pledged "all-out support" to them and their governments.

After hearing reports by Hong Kong's Donald Tsang and Macao's Ho Hau Wah on their work, both Hu and Wen spoke highly of the achievements the two SAR governments have made.

"The next five years will be an important phase in Hong Kong's development and the HKSAR government should always prioritize economic development and improvement in people's livelihood," Hu said to Tsang.

The HKSAR government should also take full advantage of globalization and the opportunities offered by the mainland's development to strengthen the city's role as a global hub of finance, trade and shipping and continue to improve the lives of the citizens, Hu added.

"We believe that Ho Hau Wah and Macao SAR government will unite the people from all walks of Macao society, find proper solutions to the problems Macao will face in the future and maintain the favorable circumstances that have existed since the region returned to the motherland (in 1999)," Wen said to Ho.

The two leaders both expressed central government's support to the SAR governments and their chief executives to administer the regions in line with the law.

The central government will continue to unswervingly uphold the principles of "one country, two systems" and the Basic Law of the HKSAR, and "give all-out support" to the HKSAR Chief Executive and the HKSAR government in governance according to law, Hu said to Tsang.

"The central government will fully support the Macao SAR government and its chief executive to administer the region in line with the law and to realize the greater development of Macao," Wen said to Ho.
