Macao media praised the city's achievement Thursday to mark the eighth anniversary of its return to the motherland.
Macao Daily News, the leading local Chinese-language newspaper, said in a commentary that the government's tax income has been increased enormously since the city returned to the motherland in 1999.
The commentary said however, the city is facing various difficulties and needs collective social efforts to tackle all problems.
Journal San Wa Ou, another major Chinese-language newspaper, in a column article attributed the achievement which the city has made over the past eight years to the support of the central government and all the Chinese people.
Macao Post Daily, the leading local English newspaper, spared its front page for the marking of the handover anniversary.
