The great banner of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics is an agglomeration of wisdom and painstaking effort of several generations of Chinese communists and contains abundant historic and new experience.
This was remarked by Xi Jinping, one of the newly-elected members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, at Friday's closing of a five-day long workshop attended by newly-elected members and alternate members of the CPC Central Committee.
Xi, now 54, heads the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and has replaced Zeng Qinghong as the president of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee.
According to the senior Party official, CPC General Secretary Hu Jintao made a key-note speech at the opening of the workshop, on December 17, which had guided the new CPC Central Committee members and alternate members in the study and discussion of a series of major issues concerning the future development of the Party and the nation.
"At the new historic starting-point and the new stage of development, facing the unprecedented opportunities and challenges,(we) must constantly arm the whole Party with the theoretic system of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, " Xi said.
He called for firmly guiding and leading all CPC members to "take Socialism with Chinese Characteristics as a great banner to uphold, a correct line to adhere to, a scientific theory to utilize, and a common ideal to pursue, and to strive hard with one heart and one mind to achieve new victories in building an overall prosperous society and write new chapters for the beautiful life of the people."
In his speech, Xi called for firmly adhering to the main theme of the 17th Party Congress, unhesitantly carry on the ideological emancipation, make greater efforts to deepen the Reform and Opening Drive and make reform-related decision-makings more scientific, fully mobilize the enthusiasm, initiatives and creativity of the hundreds of millions of people, and insist on the principle of seeking truth and doing practical things.
During the past few days, Liu Yunshan, member of both of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and Vice-Premier Zeng Peiyan also gave lectures on different topics at the workshop.
It was presided over by Li Yuanchuan, member of both of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.
