Liu Yupu, the current vice secretary of Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), will concurrently act as secretary of Shenzhen City CPC Committee as part of his latest appointment.

The CPC Central Committee had approved the appointment, the Shenzhen City CPC Committee said in a brief statement on Wednesday.

Liu filled the vacancy left by Li Hongzhong who was moved to Hubei Province where he was promoted to deputy secretary of the central province's CPC Committee last month. The Standing Committee of Hubei Provincial People's Congress soon afterwards appointed Li as Hubei acting governor.

Liu, a 58-year-old native of Tai'an in the eastern Shandong Province, graduated in steel making and metallurgy from the Northeast Polytechnic Institute. He began working 1968 at Xifeng County, Liaoning Province. He was also formerly with the metallurgy ministry in Beijing and in the northwestern Shaanxi Province.

In 2004, he was appointed Guangdong Provincial CPC Committee vice secretary.

He is an alternate member of the CPC Central Committee since 2002.
