Luo Zhijun was appointed vice and acting governor of east China's Jiangsu Province on Friday, according to the provincial legislative body.

Luo, previously Party Secretary of the Nanjing municipal committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), was named to the post during the 34th session of the standing committee of the 10th Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress.

The provincial legislature also approved the resignation of Liang Baohua, the former Jiangsu governor.

Luo, born in November 1951 and a native of Lingyuan, northeast China's Liaoning Province, assumed the post of secretary of the CPC Nanjing municipal committee in April 2003.

Luo is also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee.

He worked in the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China in the early 1990s and began to work in Nanjing in 1995.
