The 13th Beijing People's Congress, the city's legislature, started the first annual session within its five-year term on Sunday, which will focus on efforts for the upcoming Olympic Games and elect a new leadership for the government.
About 770 lawmakers attended the opening of the session, at which vice and acting mayor Guo Jinlong delivers a report on the work of the Beijing government.
The session is scheduled to conclude on Saturday.
