The Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) is on emergency status with its officials on duty 24 hours a day and more than 100,000 staff at all levels working to deal with the snow disaster.

A reporter visited the ministry on Friday and saw sofas, pillows and a tent bed in an office. These facilities were prepared for officials who were working around the clock, said Gao Yucheng, director of the Disaster Preparation Department of the Disaster Alleviation Office.

The ministry has been keeping in close contact with affected provinces to monitor their situation and relief work, Li Xueju, minister of Civil Affairs, said.

The minister emphasized that all civil affairs departments must report in daily -- immediately, in case of an emergency.

So far, the central government has allocated 331 million yuan (45.97 million U.S. dollars) to finance relief work in disaster areas, official figures show.
