The Council of Chairmen of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, held a meeting on Wednesday to examine the qualification of newly-elected deputies to the 11th NPC.

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over the meeting, which decided that a report on the qualification of newly-elected deputies would be submitted to the ongoing session of the NPC Standing Committee for approval.

A total of 2,987 deputies had been recently elected from 34 regions and the People's Liberation Army (PLA).

The council heard reports on revising the Law on the Prevention of Water Pollution and on the work of the current NPC Standing Committee.

The council also studied a draft agenda for the First Session of the 11th NPC, which is slated for March 5.
