Non-Communist personages gathered in Xibaipo of north China's Hebei Province on Sunday and Monday to mark the 60th anniversary of a call made by the Communist Party of China (CPC) for building New China in united efforts.
The call, which is known as "May 1 slogan", was put forward by the CPC on April 30, 1948, to unite non-Communist parties, people's organizations and personages without party affiliation to build a government for the People's Republic of China which was officially founded on Oct. 1 of 1949.
After announcing the call, the CPC received warm responses from the non-Communist personages, who said they were willing to accept the CPC's leading role in the government of New China.
Under the current circumstances, non-Communist personages should continue to support the CPC and make joint efforts to build a moderately prosperous society and advance socialist democracy in China, said Du Qinglin, head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee.
