The Olympic flame, a symbol of friendship, peace and justice, scaled the "rooftop of the world"--Mount Qomolongma (Everest) --on the morning of May 8. When the scene of Tibetan mountaineer Ciren Wangmu holding high the torch of "lucky clouds" at an altitude of 8844.43 meters above sea-level was broadcast live to the world, many people could not help shed tears of joy and excitement. At this moment, China had fulfilled its promise to the world people that it would adhere to the spirit of the Olympic Motto—Faster, Higher, and Stronger—and would bring out the spirit at a new height.

"One world, One dream." The Olympic flame, since it was ignited in Athens, Greece, has been relaying the Olympic conception of "peace, friendship and progress." Indeed, the torch relay has been harassed and disrupted en route by pro-Tibet Independence forces; however, the holy flame has braved the storms and marched forward amid cheers and prayers from peace-loving people all over the world.

Looking back on the origin of the Olympiad, we can be convinced that the Games in the early years was a competitive sports event free of politics, wars and hatred. In ancient Greece, during the Games, there would even be a "holy ceasefire" period. In modern times, the Olympic Charter clearly stipulates that any attempts and activities to abuse the Olympics for political purposes will be opposed and banned. The Games in itself has become a shared aspiration for all the peace-loving nations and people.

It is evident that the Olympic Games is a grand event not only confined to one nation but belonging to the world at large, when the athletes pledged at the Athletes Commission of International Olympic Committee held in Lausanne, Switzerland, that they would consistently support the Beijing Olympic Games; when Thai Prime Minister Samak stated that the Olympic torch relay brooked no disruptions; when overseas Chinese spontaneously united together to stand up for the holy flame; when countless people were waiting for hours along the relay route to witness the spectacle, with tears in eyes and without any look of regret and complaint; and when the sacred flame finally reached the top of the world, people of all ethnicities and races cheered with excitement and hailed the great victory.

However, the Dalai clique runs counter to global tides and disregards the passion of people all over the world, attempting to seize the "golden opportunity" to sabotage the Games and press China's government to resolve the so-called "Tibet issue" within 2008 or in the two years thereafter. They went out of their way to harass and disrupt the torch relay, and launched a"life and death battle against the Olympics" with "Tibet independence" as their sole and ultimate goal, gaining worldwide attention with their activities.

The holy flame has made its way up to Mount Qomolongma, leaving a chorus of condemnation for the Dalai clique. It has been proven again that any attempt to bind the Olympics with politic issues is doomed to fail. Any activities that disrupt the Games and blaspheme the spirit of Olympics will severely provoke not only China but also all the nations and people who cherish peace and the sporting spirit.

Hosting the Olympic Games is regarded as a lofty mission by the Chinese people and commissioned by the entire world; and a dream of the century bequeathed by history to be fulfilled in the foreseeable future. A report published in Malaysian Business was cited as saying, "in so doing, they (pro- Tibet independence activists) only arouse repulsion, not the sympathy they have been seeking."
