China will further increase international cooperation in fighting corruption and actively learn useful methods and experience from other countries, said He Guoqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Tuesday.

"China will be more active in punishing and preventing corruption efficiently," he said at a working conference here on issues regarding the second stage for implementing the Anti-corruption Convention of the United Nations.

China will show that the Party and the government can deliver on the promises, carry out the duties set by the convention and firmly crack down on corruption, so as to creating a sound international environment for fighting corruption and advocating clean governance, said He, also secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

He said the implementation of the UN convention would be integrated with the implementation of the country's working plan for setting and perfecting the mechanism for punishing and preventing corruption between 2008-2012.

The main content of the convention should be included in the working plan, such as the implementation of anti-corruption responsibilities, the greater efforts to stipulate the nation's anti-corruption laws and the opening of anti-corruption classes in colleges, middle schools and elementary schools. There should also be an establishment for a mechanism of international cooperation on law enforcement, judicial assistance, repatriation of people in exile and repatriation of funds.

He called for bringing improvement to the socialistic law system with China's own characteristics in considering how to linkup domestic laws with the international convention.

China should fully utilize the platform and channel provided by the convention, actively participate in international cooperation on fighting corruption and try to make substantial achievements in the fields of capacity building, punishing corrupt individuals by law and recovering and repatriating corruption-related assets.

He called for fighting against activities aimed at infringing on China's sovereignty and interfering in the country's international affairs in the name of battling corruption, so as to safeguard the fundamental interests of the country.
