Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), paid an inspection tour to Tianjin between Monday and Wednesday.

He highly praised the achievements made by its reform and opening-up and modernization promotion work. Jia said he was heartened to see the vigorous development and bright future in the city.

Jia, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, visited several enterprises and ports in the city.

While visiting Tianjin Binhai New Area, a pilot for many of the country's new economic and financial policies, Jia urged the local government to make a scientific strategy for the area to accelerate its economic development.

He also stressed that as one of the Olympic co-host cities it should make security the highest priority for the August Games. It should also safeguard the success of the great event by providing first-class facilities, services and administration.
