Chinese President Hu Jintao said Beijing Friday China is paying special attention to environmental protection, technological innovation and cultured behavior of the people in preparing for the Beijing Olympic Games.

In a group interview with representatives from 25 major global media organizations Friday morning, Hu said Beijing expects to push forward scientific development of the city and promoting social harmony through hosting the Olympic Games.

In response to a question, Hu said China is paying special attention to three areas during the process of hosting the games.

The first focal point is the cultivating of a conservation culture. Hu said this is a strategic task for China in its economic and social development and a major concern of the people.

The president said in the process of hosting the Olympic Games, China strives to promote the cause of environment protection, to make the sky bluer, the land greener, and the water clearer, and to spread the conservation culture to every corner of the country.

The second focal point is scientific and technological advancement and innovation. Hu said China attaches importance on implementing scientific and technological results in all fields of venue construction and preparatory work for the Olympic Games.

For example, Hu said the National Stadium, known as the "Bird's Nest," boasts a steel structure with the greatest span in the world. The National Aquatic Center, known as the Water Cube, adopts the world's first polyhedron space frame. The construction of Olympic venues has incorporated active attempts in such aspects of energy efficiency for buildings and utilization of terrestrial heat and solar energy.

The third focal point is to improve the cultural and moral quality of the people. Hu said China has carried out a nation-wide educational campaign to popularize Olympic knowledge among more than 400 million young people in the country.

Great efforts were also made to cultivate good manners, politeness, unity, friendliness and hospitality among the people through various activities designed to prepare people for the Olympic Games, Hu said.
