A senior Chinese leader on Wednesday called for more efforts in the research of ancient inventions of the country, saying it important to present them to the world.

Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks when visiting an exhibition on ancient Chinese inventions.

He said: "The ancient Chinese inventions showcase Chinese people's intelligence and innovations, and they record the nation's history of 5,000 years."

The exhibition is jointly hosted by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the China Association for Science and Technology. It presents the country's contribution to the development of civilization in four categories: silk, porcelain, bronze and printing.

The exhibit, inside the new China Science and Technology Museum located in the Olympic Green, runs from July 28 to Sept. 20.
