China's top legislator Wu Bangguo has urged the country's national lawmakers to improve their performance and show more dedication.
Wu, chairman of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, top legislature, made the remark on Wednesday after the NPC ratified several law amendments and international treaties in its fifth session.
Wu urged lawmakers to carefully study the legislation's five-year plan of the NPC's current tenure and urged its special committees get on with the job of lawmaking as quickly as possible.
The top legislator specially emphasized the important roles that the special committees should play in legislation, saying that they should put most of the energies into improving the quality of the drafting.
He asked the special committees involved in composing laws to publicize preliminary drafts of the laws as often as they could and listen to the feedbacks from all circles.
The 11th NPC has planned to produce 64 laws in its tenure from 2008 to 2013, during which 49 draft laws will be reviewed for ratification and a further 15 for consultation and reviewing.
