Senior Chinese official calls on prompt measures to address local complaints

A senior Chinese leader on Monday urged government efforts to outlet people's complaints and promptly deal with the country's sensitive issues and hot spots.
Efforts should be made to resolve conflicts and disputes in the bud and at the grass-roots level, Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, told a conference held in east Zhejiang Province.
The official underlined the importance to safeguard and improve people's legitimate interests.
All out efforts should be made to improve people's livelihood and maintain social stability, he stressed, adding that local government should take pro-active measures to address people's issues in case individual conflicts may turn into mass incidents.
More efforts should be made to make sure that people benefit from the country's economic achievement, he said.
He also advocated efforts to believe in and rely on the masses and respect their creativity.
More channels should be opened to solicit the people's opinions and local government should spare no effort to solve their problems, he noted.
