China paid condolences Friday to the assassinated Guinea-Bissau President Joao Benardo Vieira.

Chen Changzhi, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, went to the Guinea-Bissau Embassy here to express condolences and lay a wreath.

Vieira was killed by soldiers early Monday after a bomb attack in which the country's military chief also died.
