A senior Communist Party official called Wednesday for all-out efforts to provide more effective judicial guarantees for social and economic development.
Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the call at the seventh plenary session of the Central Political Science and Law Commission (CPSLC) of the CPC.
"To improve the political and legal work, we should first provide a good judicial safeguard for economic work, such as dealing with economic disputes in accordance with the law and fighting economic crimes," said Zhou, who is also the head of the CPSLC. "We should also further promote social fairness and justice."
The law-enforcement sector should inform the public of how cases are handled and accept public scrutiny. Law enforcement agencies could use advanced technology, such as creating an online case-investigation channel, to facilitate public scrutiny.
Zhou also called for more emphasis on the training of law enforcement personnel.
