A senior Communist Party of China(CPC) official called Tuesday for strengthened public security at grassroots levels to create a favorable environment for the country's economic growth.
Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, made the call at this year's first plenary session of the Central Committee for Comprehensive Management of Public Security of the CPC.
He urged CPC committees and governments at all levels to make real efforts to improve comprehensive management of public security in preparation for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
"Efforts should focus on the problems that weigh on the masses," said Zhou, who is also the secretary of the CPC Central Political and Legislative Affairs Committee.
Zhou said attention should be paid to the new challenges and situation, and fresh measures should be created to enhance public order.
"The authorities across the country should resolve problems and disputes at grassroots level, and when they are still in early stage," he said.
He said campaigns should be launched to solve problems that made people feel insecure and crack down on crimes like robbery, theft and trafficking of women and children.
He called on the authorities to provide employment services and assistance for migrant workers. "Their rights should be protected," he said. Source:Xinhua
