A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official has called for both economic development and social stability during a visit to a northern province.
Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee visited Shanxi Province from Tuesday to Saturday.
Social stability was conducive to economic development, and economic growth in turn strengthened social stability, said Zhou, who is also secretary of the CPC Central Political and Legislative Affairs Committee.
He called for increased investment in the rural areas at a time of economic slowdown to improve the farmers' living and farming conditions.
