With approval from the CPC Central Committee, the People's Daily will undergo organizational restructuring and is preparing to increase its content.

Its original 72 reporter stations in China and abroad will be transformed into branch offices, and starting from July 1, the number of the newspaper's pages will expand from 16 per day to 20.

The People's Daily's organizational restructuring and its newspaper's page increase will implement the spirit of General Secretary Hu Jintao's important speech during his inspection tour of the People's Daily on June 20, 2008. It is a crucial step in enhancing the newspaper's capacity to disseminate information at home and abroad and establish an international first-class media. It is also a practical action to meet the expectations of Party members and cadres at various levels and its vast number of readers in recent years, who expect the People's Daily to show the characteristics of the era and expand its contents.

Starting July 1, People's Daily will increase by four pages, mainly used to add contents on such topics as important news, international news, social construction news and theories, literature and art reviews, as well as literature and art supplements.

People's Daily will use the content expansion as an opportunity to implement the "three closeness" (close to reality, close to life and close to the masses), as well as make great efforts to develop its own characteristics. The newspaper will also improve its writing style, enrich its contents, and play an important role in publicizing the Party's views, promoting healthy social trends, understanding social situations and the will of the people, directing social hot topics, channeling the public sentiment and improving public opinion supervision.
