County-level Party chiefs should earnestly carry out government ethnic policies and be role models in promoting national unity, a senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official said during an inspection tour in Tibet Autonomous Region from July 28 to 31.

"County-level Party chiefs shoulder the responsibilities of both development and maintaining stability in their jurisdictions," said Li Yuanchao, head of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC.

Li, also a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, said the CPC would enhance training of county-level Party chiefs to improve their capabilities in leading development and maintaining stability, especially in dealing with "emergency and complicated situations".

The CPC would perfect its appraisal system of officials and take special account of their performance at "crucial moments," he said.

During his inspection, Li visited pasture areas, companies, and communities in the autonomous region.
