A senior Chinese leader on Friday called for efforts to incorporate technology into the development of the country's cultural industry and urged global promotion of Chinese culture.
Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks during a meeting on restructuring the country's cultural industry.
The cultural industry includes the publishing, entertainment, art and other such sectors.
He called for breakthroughs in tackling problems that have hampered the development of the cultural industry, stressing that intensified efforts should be made in key areas to promote its restructuring.
One of the current tasks was to bring innovation into public cultural services and facilitate the construction of a cultural service network that covers both urban and rural areas, he said.
Efforts should be made to raise the overall strength and competitiveness of state-owned cultural enterprises, he said.
Li also urged Chinese cultural enterprises to promote their influence outside China.
Efforts are needed to upgrade the influence and competitiveness of Chinese culture internationally, he said.
Liu Yunshan, member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and head of the CPC Central Committee Publicity Department, said at the same meeting that people should be more open-minded to promote the reform of the cultural sector.
Liu said it was important to put people first and resolutely respect their innovation when reforming the cultural industry.
