Vice President Xi Jinping has highlighted the importance of education and medical services as they are closely related to the interests of people.

Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, addressed a conference on promoting the Scientific Concept of Development in Xi'an, the capital of the Shaanxi Province, northwest China, on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by officials from educational and medical institutions. Xi urged them to study and implement the Scientific Concept of Development by bringing into consideration of educational and medical reforms.

Substantial efforts should be done to resolve outstanding problems in educational and medical reforms, he said, referring to problems involving ethics and working style of teachers and medical workers.

Xi asked secondary schools, elementary and high schools, and medical institutions to improve the work of their Party organizations. Grassroots Party organizations should also enhance their capabilities, and bring into a full play of the exemplary role of Party members, he said.
