China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin Wednesday expected southwestern Yunnan Province to transform its development pattern to be low-carbon and eco-friendly.

More efforts should be made in developing modern agriculture, which will improve farmers' livelihood, as well as tourism, which will boost the service sector, said Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, during his five-day inspection tour to the province that started Saturday.

He urged Yunnan to speed up transforming its economic growth pattern, a key point of the policies adopted at the Central Economic Work Conference, the country's annual economic planning meeting held early this month.

While pushing forward the urbanization, the province should balance the development of cities and towns of different size, he said.

It should also work to promote low-carbon economy, protect the environment and reduce pollution, he said.

During the trip, Jia also met local ethnic minority people. He said the country will continue supporting the economic development in the areas inhabited by ethnic minorities and providing better training for local officials.
