China's State Council announced the appointment of Fu Ying as vice minister of Foreign Affairs Monday.

H.E. Mme. Fu Ying, born in January 1953 in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China. University graduate.

In the wake of negative coverage of the 3.14 incident and protests against the Beijing Olympic Games, Fu was interviewed by British media where she introduced the progress of Tibet using facts and figures, which convinced many western readers. She is cited by The Guardian newspaper to have said: "Many who had romantic views of the west are very disappointed at the media's attempt to demonise China. We all know that demonisation feeds a counter-reaction".
Fu Ying is the second female vice foreign minister of P.R. China, the first one being Wang Hairong, who served from 1974 to 1979 as vice foreign minister.
