China will not export the "China model" for development to other countries, Zhao Qizheng, committee member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC and chief of the Committee of Foreign Affairs, said in Beijing.
It was Western countries, not China, that first introduced the term "China model" to describe the economic development mode of China. In academic circles, there are currently 17 different definitions of the "China model," causing differences of interpretation and confusion, Zhao said during the "21st Century Forum" Wednesday.
Zhao said the "China model" should be discussed based on practical experiences after the establishment of the People's Republic of China, especially after the reform and opening-up in 1978. It should also be discussed in terms of China's actual policies, practices and results to ensure accuracy.
China welcomes other countries to use its development experiences as a source of reference to develop their own countries based on their own national conditions. However, China will not "sell" this concept because China also combined its own national conditions of the times in the process of its economic development. Therefore, the "China model" cannot be generalized.
