South Korea's broadband network is the most developed in the world, a rank recently released by International Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) indicates.
The rank takes penetration rate of broadband, the average speed rate and prices into account.
The rank shows that S. Korea's broadband is the most developed, with the score 15.92. Its home broadband penetration rate is 93 percent, and the average speed rate is 49.5 Mbps. Japan ranks the second and Finland the third. United States ranks only 15th, with home broadband penetration rate of 57 percent and the average speed rate of 4.9 Mbps.
China fails to enter the rank. Although there are a large number of Chinese broadband Internet users, the overall level of broadband use is still low in China.
According to the China Internet report released at the end of 2007 by CNNIC, the total number of Internet users in China reached 210 million; number of broadband Internet users is 163 million. The overall Internet penetration rate is 16 percent, still below the global average 19.1 percent.
