The 14th Academician Conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the 9th Academician Conference of the Chinese Academy of Engineering were held on the 23rd at the Great Hall of the People. Five hundred thirty-six Chinese academicians and six foreign academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as 636 Chinese academicians and six foreign academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended this conference.

The Academician Conference is the top administrative mechanism in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is held every two years. The Chinese Academy of Sciences has six divisions, and there are currently 699 academicians including 40 female academicians, 204 senior academicians over 80. The average age is 74 years. In addition, there are 52 foreign academicians.
The Chinese Academy of Engineering was established in 1994. Since 1997, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese Academy of Sciences have been simultaneously evaluating and promoting the work of new academicians once every two years. The Chinese Academy of Engineering has nine divisions, a total of 719 academicians, including 40 female academicians and 120 senior academicians. There are also 33 foreign academicians.
