The large-scale comprehensive scientific survey of Lop Nur of China was officially launched on November 8.
Lop Nur is an important region in ancient China. Its geographic conditions, human environment and changes in the environmental conditions for living creatures have long been the focus of the scientific community.
However, many questions in Lop Nur still remain subject for in-depth studies, as the area is vast and the paths are dangerous.
More than 30 scientists will participate in this investigation. They will make an in-depth, systematic field study and analysis of Lop Nur in terms of geological evolution, desert landscape, arid climate, animals and plants, the distribution of salt crust, potassium salt resources, environmental change, human activity as well as ecological protection and restoration.
Through this investigation, scientists will propose solutions specifically geared toward the future development of the arid regions in the west, and provide new approaches to promote scientific research of the Lop Nur region.
This scientific investigation will start from November 25 and last one month.
