The Chinese-developed cluster supercomputer 'Dawning 5000A' once again ranks among the world's top 10 most powerful supercomputers, according to the latest TOP500 list of global high performance computers released on November 17.
The achievement makes China the second country in the world capable of researching, developing and producing supercomputers with a computing speed of over 100 trillion times per second.
The Dawning 5000A has a peak computing speed of 230 trillion times per second and sustained computation capacity of 180 trillion calculations per second for the Linpack benchmark.
It was jointly developed by the National Research Center for Intelligent Computing Systems under the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Dawning Information Industry (Beijing) Company and the Shanghai Supercomputer Center, and it was produced by the Dawning Information Industry Company.
The Dawning 5000A supercomputer, which will soon be installed at the Shanghai Supercomputer Center, has already been officially named the 'Magic Cube.'
