The AVIC Commercial Aircraft Engine Company, entrusted with the mission of assembling engines made in China for jumbo jets, was formally incorporated in Shanghai, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China announced on January 18. This indicates that research and development on jumbo jet engines, the pearl on the crown of the aviation industry, has been substantially launched.
The AVIC Commercial Aircraft Engine Company has a registered capital of 6 billion yuan. It will operate principally in all aspects of commercial airplane engines and related products encompassing design, development, manufacturing, sales, maintenance, service, technological development and technical consultation.
Liu Daxiang, acedemician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Commission of AVIC, said that China is expected to realize independent research, development and manufacturing of jumbo jet engines within approximately 20 years.
