The first double sided Blu-ray Disc production line in China went into operation on January 20 at Shanghai Songjiang Industrial Development Zone. At present,it is also the Blu-ray Disc production line with the highest single line production capacity in the world, utilizing the most advanced technology. It has a monthly output of 500,000 BD25/BD50 Blu-ray Discs, accounting for over 70 percent of the global output.
As the new generation information carrier, Blu-ray Discs utilize a blue laser operating at a wavelength of 405 nanometres, hence the name “Blu-ray.” Blu-ray technology has become a universal high definition technology standard, but is still in the stage of market development. With Blu-ray technology, a disc with the physical size of a CD can store up to 50 gigabytes of audio and video data, six times the capacity of a DVD.
