On June 2, the production line at Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Company Limited (BFCEC), a joint venture between Beiqi Foton Motor Company (Foton Motor) and US-based Cummins Inc was officially put into operation in Beijing. The production line has an annual production capacity of 400,000 high-end engines. This marks the start of the mass-production of 2.8-liter and 3.8-liter light-duty diesel engines featuring the world's most advanced technology. Foton Motor's strategy of going global to become "the world's global engine power" has therefore achieved a good start. In the future, Foton Motor will build the world's largest engine manufacturing base in Beijing with an annual production capacity of 1 million units.
In recent years, Foton Motor has consistently accelerated its policy of going global. In 2008, Foton Motor set up a joint venture with US-based Cummins Inc to build one of the largest production bases for light-duty diesel engines in China. In 2009, Foton Motor signed a commercial vehicle cooperative agreement with Daimler AG, announcing the establishment of a global research and development (R&D) platform in China. The path of going global for Foton Motor is clear and visible. In the first five months of this year, Foton Motor's cumulative production and sales totaled 235,000 vehicles, an 8 percent rise year-on-year, comfortably retaining its position at the top of China's commercial vehicle sector.
