4,338 scientific, technological achievements increase incomes of 52 million farmers

Since the Fund for the Transformation of Agricultural Technical Achievements was established in 2001, central financial departments have invested a total of 2.65 billion yuan over the past nine years, supporting 4,338 scientific and technological achievements.

Reporters learned from the Exhibition of Practical Technologies for Rural Areas and High-Tech Technologies at the ongoing China ASEAN Expo that central financial departments have guided local financial departments and social organizations to invest 1.4 billion yuan, which has been used to develop 8,560 new technological varieties and raise the incomes of over 52 million farmers.

In 2001, central financial departments established the Fund for the Transformation of Agricultural Technical Achievements, which is jointly administrated by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Finance.

The fund plays an extremely important role in accelerating the transformation of China's agricultural scientific and technological achievements into practical productivity.

For instance, the "regulated nitrogen fertilization of rice in cold areas technology" can increase the net income per mu of rice by 100 yuan; the "high-efficiency production of new soybean variety Hefeng 50 with high-oil and high-yield technology" has been put to use in a total of 6.52 million mu of land, increasing the soybean yield by 130 million kilograms.
