Chinese supercomputer manufacturer Dawning will jointly invest 50 million yuan along with the Chengdu Municipal Government to set up China's second supercomputer center in Chengdu Hi-tech Zone by the end of this year, said Li Jun, president of Dawning Information Industry Co., Ltd recently.

The Dawning 6000A, a supercomputer equipped with the domestically-designed Godson-3 processor which is able to do more than 1 quadrillion calculations per second, will make its debut in 2011.

Since China's first 100 TFLOPS supercomputer (Dawning 5000A) was installed in the Shanghai Supercomputer Center in September 2008, supercomputer and cloud computing-based construction projects have been launched all over the country.
