More than 100,000 residents in Chongqing Municipality in southwest China has suffered from water shortage for 24 hours due to a water supply cut-off, local government sources said on Saturday.

The incident was caused by a transformer substation malfunction at a local water supply plant, which occurred at 8 p.m. Friday, the sources said.

The affected area include Jiangbei District, Yubei District and New Northern District in northern part of the city.

Local government has exerted full effort to repair the water-supply system. So far, other water supply plants in the cityare transferring water to the districts with the aim to rapidly resume water supply for the residents.
