All of the 83 pupils hospitalized by food poisoning in a school canteen in east China a week ago have been discharged, and most of them have gone back to school, local health authorities said on Monday.
A preliminary investigation has revealed the food poisoning was caused by a diarrhea-inducing bacteria that contaminated the food served up at the dining hall of Hebin Primary School in Jintan City, Jiangsu Province.
But the source of the bacteria has yet to be determined, a spokesman from the city health bureau said.
The pupils suffered vomiting, nausea and diarrhea after having lunch on Nov. 9 at the school's dining hall, and were sent to hospital on Nov. 12.
The school said it had disinfected the dining hall, classrooms, offices and banisters, and provided boiled water for students to drink since Nov. 12 to reduce the chances of infection.
Local education authorities have also been watching over the food purchasing and processing at the school's dining hall in an attempt to trace the source of the bacteria. Source: Xinhua
