A fire broke out Wednesday evening at a home appliances market a block from the famed former imperial palace in Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province, according to local fire-fighters.
The fire was reported at 6:64 p.m. on Wednesday at a five-story home appliances store in the Shenhe district of the city.
Residents living near the market were evacuated. No casualties were reported, as the fire broke out after business hours.
More than 100 fire-fighters working with 88 fire engines were still trying to bring the blaze under control late Wednesday night. Thick smoke made it difficult to locate burning areas.
Fire-fighters said the blaze was unlikely to affect the former imperial palace, built in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), which is second in grandeur only to the Forbidden City, or the Palace Museum, in Beijing. Source: Xinhua
