French President Nicolas Sarkozy left here Tuesday for Shanghai, China's economic hub in the east.

During his stay in Shanghai, Sarkozy is expected to visit the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center and the Bund Area, attend a reception held by local French community and meet with Shanghai officials.

Sarkozy arrived in northwest China's Xi'an City on Nov. 25, kicking off his first state visit to the country since taking office in May.

Prior to Shanghai, he also visited Beijing, where he met with Chinese President Hu Jintao, top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao
