The ruling Communist Party of China(CPC) will hand out gifts and cash worth of 64 million yuan (about 8.7 million U.S. dollars) to veteran and needed members before the lunar new year, the most important traditional Chinese festival.

The fund will come from the party fees collected from members, according to a decision of the organization department of the CPC Central Committee.

According to the department, poor rural Party members, unemployed urban members and members suffered from disasters will qualify for the gift, which shall be distributed before the lunar new year, which falls on February 7 this year.

The department suggested its affiliated organs at provincial level to appropriate a certain amount of subsidy to cover more Party members in financial difficulties.

It also urged officials of organization organs at all local levels to visit more veteran Party members, care their livings and listen to their appeals.
