According to Beijing Daily, Capital Iron and Steel Company Chairman Zhu Jimin said on January 5th that after the relocation of Capital Iron and Steel Company, the company will independently develop the remains of former industrial areas.
There are plans to make them future western Beijing multi-service centers and post-industrial, cultural and creative industry zones. Capital Iron and Steel will retain two of its five largest blast furnaces as a future industrial heritage site open to visitors. Zhu Jimin said that in the future, the site will be divided into a protected industrial heritage area, a leisure tourism area, a commercial real estate development area and the central office.
Some benchmarks of industrial buildings and industrial facilities will become permanent cultural heritage.
Apart from the No. 4 blast furnace, which has discontinued production, and the No. 5 BF; by 2010, No. 1, 2 and 3 blast furnaces will shutdown. By then, of the five furnaces existing in the history of Capital Iron and Steel Company, one or two will be retained as the industry's cultural heritage and could, in the future, be open for visitors.
