Two cross-Strait charter flights departed on schedule from Xiamen in southeast Fujian Province here Monday afternoon.

The Boeing 757-200 with 190 passengers aboard, and the Boeing 737-800 with 73 passengers aboard are bound for Taipei and Kaohsiung, respectively.

Ticket booking record showed 160 and 138 passengers will board the planes back to Xiamen, according to the Xiamen Airlines.

The Xiamen Airlines completed two chart flights to Taipei and one charter flight to Kaohsiung on Feb. 4 and Feb. 5, which carried 983 passengers.

This is the fifth year that cross-Strait charter flights have been offered for the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year, which fell on Feb. 7 this year.

Twelve airlines from both sides will run 94 flights between Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xiamen in the mainland and Taipeiand Kaohsiung in Taiwan.
