Terminal 3 of the Capital Airport Terminal 3 will open in late February and set up the Olympic charter zone.
According to the Beijing Olympics official website, at midnight on February 29, 2008, the 3rd terminal of the Beijing Capital International Airport will open. On the afternoon of February 26, Beijing Capital International Airport, Inc., held a press conference at Terminal 3. They gave a press briefing for Chinese and foreign media on the preparation of Terminal 3 before its opening.
After almost 4 years of construction, and as a key project for the Olympic Games, Terminal 3 of Beijing International Airport will be operational on February 29. The overall construction area covers 986,000 square meters. Once it opens, this airport will be the first in China to have three domestic terminals, two towers and three runways operating simultaneously. Its taxiways will increase from 71 to 137; and taxi stands from 164 to 314. The third runway is being built for F-category aircraft to take off and land. After its completion, a new generation of large aircraft, like the Airbus A380, can take off and land at the capital airport. The Capital Airport will be one of the world's largest airports.
The 3rd terminal is divided into three functional areas: T3-C, D-T3, and T3-E. T3-C is a zone for processing domestic and international flights and Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan flights; domestic departures; and the domestic and international baggage. T3-D is a zone for temporary charter flights during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. After the Olympic Games, it will be used for international charter flight services. T3-E zone is designated for international and Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan departures and arrivals.
