According to "New Express" reports, there are more than 4,000 endangered plant species in China which account for nearly one fifth of domestic plant species. To combat this imminent threat, China has recently issued the nation's "plant protection strategy." And the strategy will become a guiding principle for China's conservation and management of wild plants.

China harbors one of the greatest varieties in plant species: over 30,000 higher plants and 15,000-18,000 plant endemic species. In the last three decades, with the rapid economic development and population increase, the ecological environment has been damaged. Consumption of plant resources has accelerated; and the number of endangered species increases rapidly. Now there are between 4,000 to 5,000 endangered higher plants.
