Friday morning's bus-truck collision that killed 10 people in north China's Hebei Province was caused by overloading, local authorities confirmed on Saturday.
The accident occurred at 4:50 a.m. in Huanghua City on the expressway linking Tianjin with Shanwei in southern Guangdong Province, when a mini bus carrying 14 people collided with a truck.
Six people died at the scene and four others died later in the hospital. Four injured people, all in stable condition, remained hospitalized. All the dead and injured were from the mini bus.
The mini bus passengers were migrant workers in central Henan Province. They rented the bus for Lankao county.
Police said the mini bus was only permitted to carry a maximum of eight people but had 14 on board, and a lot of luggage, when the accident happened.
The owner of the mini bus was taken into police custody and the investigation is underway.
The truck, loaded with coal, was registered in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei.
