Deputy Minister of Culture Zhou Heping talked on the 10th about this year's non-material cultural heritage protection work; and he revealed that UNESCO will establish an Asia-Pacific region non-material cultural heritage Protection Center in China. In addition, this year's cultural heritage day will take place at a cultural heritage capital for the first time. This is a new move by the Ministry of Culture to increase non-material cultural heritage protection work.
Zhou Heping said that the cultural heritage capital will be adopted through formal declaration. Declarations from local governments will be made by experts; and later must be approved by relevant State Council departments. With this year's Beijing Olympics, the first cultural heritage capital activities will be held in Beijing on cultural heritage day. Among the activities there will be non-material cultural heritage exhibitions, and performances and lectures promoting a public understanding of cultural heritage; and raising public awareness of the protection of cultural heritage.
