The expansion project of the Shanghai Pudong Airport, including the third runway, Terminal 2, and west freight transfer zone, will be finished and open for use on March 26th, according to the press conference held by the Shanghai government on Monday.

The expansion is an important step towards making Shanghai China's "Air Gateway," the key intersection of Asian-Pacific air traffic, and an important node in the global air route network.

Once the expansion project of the Shanghai Pudong Airport opens for use, the airport's transportation capabilities will grow substantially.

The newly-expanded airport will be able to handle 600 million passengers annually, 4.2 million tons of post and freight, and 4.6 million departing and arriving flights.
