According to the China News Network, by the end of December last year, the Chinese mainland had distributed free anti-virus treatment to 42,576 AIDS patients. Currently, 33,980 patients are under treatment, accounting for 81.3% of the total. This data was provided by Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention of STDs and AIDS on the 25th.
According to the report, last year more than 10,000 AIDS patients in China received free anti-virus treatment; and nearly 70% of patients who are undergoing medical treatment have effectively controlled the virus. The mortality rate of people who die from AIDS dropped from 9.6% in 2004 to 5%.
In 2006, 85.1 percent of patients received 12 months of treatment. They currently reside in 1,232 counties of 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. In 150 counties of 20 provinces, autonomous regions municipalities, 799 c hildren have received anti-virus treatment, 766 of whom are still under medical treatment.
Statistics show that last year in 24 counties of 8 provinces and autonomous regions in the Central Plains, a sample survey found that about 69 percent of patients undergoing medical treatment have the virus effectively under control. Despite the differences in academic ability and standards of medical institutions and medical clinics, more than 95 percent of patients surveyed were satisfied with the medical service they received from doctors.
